Russian cbank wants to differentiate surcharge for sys importance

MOSCOW, Jan 23 (PRIME) -- The central bank wants to differentiate a surcharge to the capital adequacy rule by systemic importance of the bank, making it depend on the size of the bank and its influence on the financial system, the authority said in a statement on Thursday.

“Differentiated requirements to the surcharge for systemic importance depending on the size of the bank and its influence on the financial system is seen as the most important area of improvement of regulation of the systemically important credit organizations,” the central bank said.

Since January 1, 2016, the central bank has set the surcharge for systemic importance to the capital adequacy rule at 0.15% of the assets weighted by risk. The surcharge was raised annually until it reached 1% on January 1, 2020.

There are 11 systemically important banks in Russia – Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, Alfa-Bank, Russian Agricultural Bank, Otkritie Financial Corporation, Моscow Credit Bank, Promsvyazbank, Unicredit, Raiffeisenbank and Rosbank, which account for over 60% of assets.
